The problem I'm facing with this though is when I brought it up to someone, they said it was a great idea, but only if I was doing it "for me." Which they considered was "the right reason."
But I don't know who I'm doing it for?
I'm doing it for me, sure. But realistically, aren't I really doing it for reactions from other people? Someone want to help me sort this out?
And idk I kind of look dimly upon the idea of people doing things just for social approval anyway. Like the idea that someone would pick up an instrument just to be some rad guitar dude at parties or something — sure maybe that's part of it, but they aren't going to spend the time to get good enough to be a rad guitar dude at parties unless they also just enjoy playing in general. So if they're enjoying their time, I say, where's the issue? Sure rad guitar dudes at parties are annoying and pretentious, but that doesn't mean they aren't often decent on guitar and probably enjoying their time learning the instrument, which is usually more than their detractors can say for themselves.
When I started wrestling training I just wanted to do it cause I like wrestling right and like the approval of others ie a watching crowd was really secondary to me cause I hate being in front of crowds or being the centre of attention or being on camera but that's a big part of wrestling apparently
