The contraption is ultra pure polarizing crystal to turn sunlight which radiates redshift outward into a beam which only loses energy forward. This beam is bent into a circular trajectory by angled convex nanoglass (magnifying glasses) which have an automated spin so it can intensify the beam and spit it into ionized gas and get reflected by mirrors back into the beam trap.

If the saucer is made out of carbon nanotubes in a basket weave this would make it light as a feather, and either invisible or outshone by the ionized gas within. The mercury would be magnetizes to the positive ions, the propulsion is called "ion propulsion" as the negative ions push on the gas chamber which lifts the hull like anti-gravity.
