I tend to just assume that no election is really 'honest'. Besides any allegations of actual voting fraud, the media tends to decide who the president is. If they liked Trump (e.g. if he bombed more brown children and didn't put himself centre-stage in such an arrogant way), he likely would have won the election.COVID predictions:
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/13/us/coronavirus-deaths-estimate.html
"As many as 200,000 to 1.7 million people could die."
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/
U.S. COVID deaths: 368,458
If the media liked Trump, they'd be calling this a massive success, and that due to his decisive leadership, the death toll ended up being on the lower end of the scale. But because he's their enemy, he's painted as an irresponsible maniac.
This is just like, how the media works, and how democracy works. It's how every single election is decided: who has the best media ties, who has the most lucrative and effective lobbyists. The public are told what to think. It's not even a conspiracy theory, it's just basic social psychology. For the most part people do what the media tells them to do, and think like the media tells them to think.
This makes no sense
Originally posted by QuincyI think most people do, yeah. It's a fair statistical assumption. Some of the coolest people I've met have turned out to basically follow whatever orthodox is being touted at the time by their tribal spokesfolk, on both the left and the right. Independent thought is incredibly limited.
Do you think we only like things that the tv tells us to?This weird ass eclectic mix of people?
I don't exclude myself from that, I'm assumedly brainwashed from plenty of other angles (all I know is that I don't know nothing), but I'm fairly confident in my beliefs, if only because I have to trust myself to some degree, and I have to trust what I've seen and not dismiss it because of any tribal leanings or social cues.
IRL I follow all the orthodox as much as I can stand, as I fear physical social ostracisation because that results in conflict. I'm much more confident in being honest online. Hopefully one day I can transfer that to public life, but not yet.
I think we're all forgetting something

I also don't bbelieve diagnoses are a lazy way to group completely different people together making them susceptible bro labelist association.
We are not a word or term, the proverb goes that a person is the sum of his experiences.
