Most states allow first cousins once removed to marry. Once you marry in a state where it is legal, if you decide to relocate to a state where such a marriage is not legal, your marriage will be regarded as void, if the state laws in your relocation state declare first cousin marriages unlawful and void. This affects inheritance rights between spouses, and insurance and other benefits. You should consult a family law attorney before getting a marriage license, if you plan on marrying a cousin, and relocating. Six states prohibit first cousin once removed marriages.
