I did get to go in. My conversation went as such (I think I remember it all).
Me: Hey, it's Mike.
Mike: Well look at you. You're all decked out.
Me: Yep, gotta rep Green Day spirit.
(I hand him the Kerrang Mag with FBHT in it)
Mike: Oh this is from a Foxboro concert.
Me: Yeah, that's me right there (I point to myself in the photo).
(Mike signs, I go over to Billie Joe)
Me: Hey Billie Joe, I just wanted to say thank you so much. In high school my friend wrote a play and cast me as you. I didn't know you guys that well back then. He gave me Bullet in a Bible to do some character work. I looked online to do some more character work, and found that article in the Advocate where you talked about your bisexuality.
Billie: Oh.
Me: Through that I figured out I was gay. (Takes a beat) I know that sounds weird.
Billie: No, no it doesn't sound weird.
Me: It's just cool to look up to someone who isn't a stereotype.
Tre: Aren't you cold like that?
Me: A little.
Tre: Here have some candy. I already got you dude (indicating that he already signed my mag)
And then I left.
I was really glad I got to tell Billie that- definitely something I can cross off my bucket list. It was just the fact that wow this person totally does not fit the stereotype yet he talks about it in his music (Coming Clean, King for a Day, American Idiot)- seeing this person helped me find out (I know I'm not the only guy that has said that). I just hope I was coherent for them to understand.
SO yeah- Tuesday was a pretty damn good day for me.
