The General Discussion Thread

Guy at the record store started talking to me about this other band that came out about the same time Weezer did and how that band didn't become anything because Weezer took off. Said he saw this band Perform with Green Day at the Nimrod tour and they were booed off stage.

Wish I could remember the band.

Also, he said new Green Day sucked. And I agreed with him. Said it's just overplayed and overrated pop-punk produced especially for the newer generation to enjoy and that they don't believe any of the crap they sing about anymore. It's all about the Benjamin's. I'm paraphrasing, of course.

8 days, boyo.

i could just dig out the big rant i had with premium

you can't say boyo

Originally posted by ~Wålshy~ how do you think Green Day sold out? you one of them fools who reads the paper and listens and follows blindly what the news man says? if you are then you must think that between Dookie and American Idiot Green Day were in hiding or something. GD's always evolved, musically, lyrically and like topically and as people, do you really want a 37 year old man writing about masturbation? surely that would be pretty creepy. anyway if you follow the media man you probably think every song on Dookie is about masturbating and every song on American Idiot is a political rant. 2 songs from Dookie were about masturbating, or one and a half really cause Longview can be just about being lonely and lazy and lazing around the house or whatever, theres only one like that directly goes on about wanking "when masturbations lost its fun you're ****ing lonely" and then All By Myself. for every record they always go deeper into things that matter to them which is going to happen to someone who is growing into middle age. if they wanted to sell out then Warning was their chance, the height of pop punk and blink 182s and sum 41s and what nots, but did they do that? no. they got into things that were a bit more rootsy, topical, with age they start absorbing more information and Billie was becoming bolder as a songwriter, every record has been a step forward and a step deeper into things that matter to them

IS THAT A DARE, BOYO?!?

The whole 'overplayed pop-punk' thing only applies to the singles though so

I mean was 'Extraordinary Girl' overplayed? no

Neither was St. Jimmy or Homecoming

It's a one-sided argument really

Plus neither side will actually accept that maybe they're wrong

So stupid

Let people enjoy what they enjoy I say

Look just get the cream and we'll call it even

I think if it's played once, it's overplayed. That's just my opinion, though.

Guessing some die hard fan wrote this. Yeah, go ahead and think that.

time to get another beer, I guess

and to say that its just pop punk would be stupid awehawe

just take the new album, Before the Lobotomy, Christians Inferno, Last Night on Earth, Restless Heart Syndrome, Horseshoes and Handgrenades

you can't just sum Green Day up with one genre, and thats what makes Green Day awesome, they ain't afraid of being more than punk or pop punk or punk rock or whatever same with the Clash, London Calling, a punk band using reggae and pop influences and stuff, the best punk bands are the ones that aren't afraid to be more than just a punk band

you tell that to the record shop man

I WROTE THAT

Sure

Yeah, I agree. Classifying a band as one genre is stupid.
