The number of students occupying NYU dropped from about 50 to about ten tonight, but the crowd out front surged to its largest numbers yet. Hundreds of protesters showed up to support the occupation at 1 AM, the deadline set by NYU for the activists to leave.

There was a brief violent encounter between the police and protesters out front, but it didn’t go beyond that. The remaining occupiers are there for another night, and the word on the street was that they have not been given amnesty by NYU or the NYPD.
