On the Road is one of those staples like To Kill a Mockingbird or Catcher in the Rye, that every kid has read at some point.

Yeah, he's well known but not on the level of Kerouac who was an icon of the counter-culture. I liked it when I first read it. Didn't think it was amazing at the time though, but it paints a romantic picture of an era I'll never experience.
