Actually it depends whether you consider Istanbul to be European or not. It's either:

1. Istanbul
2. Paris
3. London

or:

1. Paris
2. London
3. Berlin

I thought Ghent was a joke

No, wait, yeah, Ghent was a joke

No wait, just the largest in the EU. Figures that Moscow would be bigger

Oh yeah, forgot about Moscow. Istanbul is larger than Moscow though.

Leeds-Bradford has the highest student population in Europe, if what I've read is correct

Paris has the largest urban area in the EU though.

From Wikipedia: ''Istanbul is one of the world's most populous cities and ranks as the world's 7th-largest city proper and the largest European city.''

This is all very interesting. Where does Manchester rank in europes biggest cities not including greater Manchester?

Not very high, probably

Probably rather low. But if you include the Greater Manchester area it's in the top 15 of largest conurbations in the EU.

But those counts are always weird. For example, Tokyo's city proper is smaller than Istanbul's, but Greater Tokyo is the largest conurbation in the world. So which city is bigger?

I guess. It's interesting that for the top 10 largest conurbations in the world, all but one are in Asia or South-America. The one non-Asian or South-American city being Lagos, Nigeria.

The general consensus would probably just be that they are both some proper get huge places, mans

But that's only counting one city's Greater Area. Consider that China's Pearl River Delta conurbation (which includes Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Macau among others) has a combined population of 57.1 million people when only counting it's 9 largest cities. Imagine living in that sprawl. And imagine how ridiculously fast it grew, in a matter of decades.

I'd love to fly over that in a helicopter. Just city for as far as the eye can see.

It'd be like some William Gibson-level shit
