This is a big reason why WCW eventually lost the ratings war and went out of business. They had been creaming WWE in ratings for nearly 2 years. Then in June of 1998 as the Attitude era was truly taking off the WWE finally got better ratings than Nitro one night.
So the very next week WCW had Hulk Hogan vs Goldberg as the main event of Monday Nitro. They gave away for free a match they could have made millions of dollars off of at a PPV. Then that summer you had other WCW PPV's that were full of nonsense, like when Jay Leno and Dennis Rodman got involved in PPV's.
Then of course within 12 months of that David friggin Arquette won the WCW title. The problem is when Nash and Hall first came to WCW in 1996 it was largely their presence, plus turning Hogan heel..that gave WCW their nearly 2 years of dominating the ratings. Problem was it also gave people like Nash a lot of control behind the scenes. Nash is a good performer, especially for a guy his size, but he's a shitty booker. In fact, I've found that 90% of the time when you have a booker who used to be a wrestler or is currently a wrestler..they just do a bad job. Nash showed this, Ric Flair showed this as well.
