For me it's more about acceptance. It's more acceptable for one side to behave a certain way than the other.

Think of it like parents who have more than one child, and they let the youngest child get away with shit they'd never let their eldest get away with.

Case in point: John Lewis calls Trump illegitimate and is praised. Trump responds back and is boycotted.
