But this one is very interesting, ever so slightly disturbing and maybe could provoke discussion?
The Oedipus Complex theorises, in layman's terms, that every male child at some stage wishes to have exclusive love from and if left unchecked for many years, sex with his mother. The only thing stopping him from doing so is 'castration anxiety', by which the child fears his father will cut off his penis (subconsciously) if he does so.
The child then internalises this fear and shifts his sexual desire onto others (not of the same family) and hence we have sexual development. This also applies, to a lesser extent, to women.

Personally, I gotta say, I found this really amazing, interesting and freakish. Assuming it's true, that's very strange.
I find it odd that nature has implanted such a 'risk' to successful procreation in the minds of young men... imagine if people's resistance to this complex began to drop over time and then we had a huge rise in incest.
Any thoughts? Aside from the obvious blink-182 references.
