Nova infects Cable with the TO virus again. No more Jesus Cable.Rider FTW.
I dont think its that simple. The T.O. virus did return, and but by that time Cables powers had manifested to such an extent that he could restrain it with an afterthought.
And last seen Nova Prime rid himself of the infection. Its not an option, he could dwell on to begin with.

He had to use a vast portion of his power to keep it in check. That's why he literally ran out of juice against Surfer.
Now, NP is no Surfer, but Surfer was also holding back in that fight, so...

Anyhow, Cable confirms to Xavier that the virus returned. Yet it was not sufficient enough to hamper its power levels. In fact, his powers continued to grow.

Which is why reintroducing the virus at this point, wont really do much.

Ah, nice find, man.
How would God-Cable win, then? Even standard centurion suits come with built-in psi-shields. Plus he's got Worldmind. And enough power to one-shot Current Drax, which no one else has been able to do so far.
Despite being, a Cable fanboy. I dont know how the match would go.
Nova psi-shields come with limitations. Remember, a group of X-Men that crashed Providence where nothing more then a diversion? The same group that had psi scramblers, Rachael Grey, and Emma Frost w/Cerebro for back up.
That’s just to give you an idea at the level of Telepathy Cable commands.
Matching power to power, well Nova K.O.ed Drax while Cable broke the Surfers board. It seems as though Cable can do more with his T.K. then Nova with his Gravimetry.
Psionic Shields are barely holding. Is Cable Telepathically probing for us Emma? - Storm
No Storm. Not particularly. But the atmosphere around the entire planet is being Ionized by his telepathic wave lengths. He’s not looking for us so much as he looking into everybody. - Emma

Cable is a monstrous Telepath. Add along his experience who vary well rivals/matches Xavier or Emma, and his military training. I guess you can see why I am a fan boy.

Been so long since I read the arc.

I might recall wrong, but wasn't Nova's Psionic shield at one point defeated by the insect like creature that Nova battled on Taa II?
I think that was more of a possession-type being, though. Different from psionic.

Nova was at Full power when he fought Surfer.
He purged himself of the TO virus the issue before, and instantly became full power, and took on the mature technarch.
He just was getting stomped by Surfer b/c Surfer is swish.
Although, Surfer has owned both of these guys.
Although Cable did more damage he got one shotted in the end, Nova's fight never ended, as Surfer smashed him into the planet insanely quickly and they both got up and talked...
I don’t believe Surfer was holding back. In fact this is one of the vary few moments, where we see a Serious Surfer take action immediately pre Annihilation. How could he, the plot prevents him from being neutral or a pacifist. Cables actions where to provoke a government upspring against himself. A misstep in Cables judgment could vary well annihilate this planet. According to Cable he was going to neutralize this global upspring and sacrifice himself at that vary instant. A vary ballsy move if you ask me. Though Surfer acknowledges his passion, he will never allow another world to fall.
Thus why he immediately responded from Richards plea’s in Space. Bull Rushed him, with out warning. And refused to talk things out with Cable (that’s probably the biggest give away).

Narration specifically stated they were both holding back during their fight, to prevent loss of innocent life.
