Metal Gear Solid Rising

wow, no one has talked about this since the new trailer came out.

just in case you haven't seen it.

What do you think?

If you ask me, it looks like the game "should" be too easy. The opponents are nothing to raiden, I think they better give him some epic ones not shown in the trailer, like super frogs (from mgs4) cuz even those would be nothing to him

no one has anything to say about the new trailer?

Looks cool, all I really want is to kill Vamp for myself though, I fought that bastard way too many times to fight off side characters while Raiden took him out

oh man...now you made me think that. i was content before, now i want to do the same

i loved the fact that you can cut anyone anyway with Raiden

i've had a boner since i've seen gray fox in that exoskeleton and been dying to play as a ninja in the MGS series.. a real game, not stupid ass substance missions.. i will jerk away my boner with this game..

yeah, too bad you can't play as fox. He is simply the coolest character in the series, and I honestly think he is better than Raiden, besides the fact that Raiden is now the lightning god apparently

Edit: changed not to now

😐

Raiden is Sweet Dee from It's Always Sunny! 😱

Terrible character design. Almost as bad as the voice acting in that trailer.

Not very good trailer as well.

I'm not sure where they are going with the atmosphere of the game. The trailers suggests something hair metal like yet the graphics resemble something similar to MGS4 (which I felt was very Man with No Name esque)

So Rising got canceled, and now we get Revengeeee...

I'm not so sure I'm liking this... it just weird, even by MGS standards

and btw, this one's set after MGS4

"Revengeance"? Allow me to laugh. HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA HOLY SHIT AHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA

Oh man...

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA 😆

It gets even better at 2.23.

REVENGE WITH A VENGEANCE!

Opinion: Revengeance Will Ruin Metal Gear Solid
A classic franchise is suffering from truly bizarre creative decisions.

Metal Gear Solid helped define video games in the late '90s. Hideo Kojima's resurrection of Solid Snake on the original PlayStation was a waking moment for the industry, bringing a new sense of gameplay innovation and cinematic flair at a time when it was most needed. Yet increasingly Metal Gear Solid stands as the pinnacle of its series. The Metal Gear games have strayed from what made the original so great, and while each of them seem to capture some excellence from the past, watching the new Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance trailer proves the franchise has now irreversibly derailed.

Rising could easily be a great game. It certainly has the right developer supporting an appropriate vision. But that's actually beside the point. What was once a relatively grounded, sane series concept, one that felt like it could somehow be real, is now sliding into a bizarre, cartoonish realm so far removed from the world we know that it completely lacks relatable elements. That Rising technically omits the word "Solid" from its title, and therefore might not be in continuity, is irrelevant. The game's concept and gameplay are what will damage the brand.

Metal Gear Solid succeeded because of its hero. Solid Snake, despite being a badass spy capable of unimaginable feats, always seemed like he might exist somewhere in this world. It's the same idea that makes Nathan Drake, Vic Mackey, John McClane, Indiana Jones and so many other fictional characters so fascinating. You suspect in some way they could exist in our modern world. Sure, you have to suspend disbelief to some extent (or to a great extent in some cases), but the characters themselves feel real.

Raiden doesn't evoke that reaction - certainly not anymore. The character as he appeared in Metal Gear Solid 4 was certainly cool, but only as a part of the supporting cast. He was interesting because suddenly he wasn't the annoying, false substitute for Snake that he was in Metal Gear Solid 2. He wasn't an irritating failure, in other words. This trailer further removes him from being a relatable lead character. It continues to push the franchise in a direction unlike anything that made it brilliant in the first place. Raiden has now, for all intents and purposes, become a superhero capable of handling the mighty Metal Gear machines with one hand.

Think about that for a second. In this trailer, we see Raiden flip a Ray over his head with one hand. Spectacle aside, consider what that means for the franchise. Snake's battles with the Metal Gears always stand as the climax of every Metal Gear game. They are the payoff, the incredible battle that gamers anticipate from minute one. They are in many respects the ultimate boss character, larger-than-life and of immense challenge.

And Raiden is tossing the hulking beast as if it was a stuffed animal that belongs in the trash.

Suddenly Snake's trials feel lessened. It's as if the developers of Rising, in their zeal to convince us all that this game and its hero are awesome, have disregarded the entirety of the franchise, complete with what it has worked so hard to accomplish for over a decade. Ridiculous plot twists and overwhelming cutscenes have nothing on what this game is so cavalierly setting on fire. The next time Snake attempts to face off against a hulking Gear, he'll seem weaker because he can't do what Raiden did. He'll seem like a lesser character, plainer and borderline irrelevant in contrast to what Rising portrays.

The Metal Gear Solid franchise as it once was seems a distant memory. It will always hold more potential than Konami will seemingly ever fully realize, and now it seems the company has completely lost sight of what the series must be. There is no denying that franchises must evolve and take risks, but there are certain undeniable truths about enduring icons, no matter what medium they live in. There's a reason Metal Gear has become an icon over the past decades. How unfortunate that it might be buried for good when Rising is released - and just in time for its 25th anniversary.

couldn't have said it better

with Platinum games developing it could be a fun addictive game, but it certainly ruins MGS, specially when Raiden is tossing a MG with his hands

Looking foward to it.

Sigh.

God-Mod Raiden.

I don't know why people think Raiden is all of a sudden some uber guy.

I mean, he kinda held back Outer Haven by himself in MGS4 while having an arm cut off, this isn't anything new.

Good thing I don't give two shits about the MGS franchise. Don't have to worry about it getting turned into DMC and stuff like that.

He literally stopped a ship in it's tracks.

I didn't like him back then either. Raiden and I have a love/hate relationship...I used to hate him when I first played MGS2. Then I grew fond of him and took him for what he was. Then they went and made him Cyborg Ninja Plus in MGS4 and I started hating him again.
