He requires absorption of energy to contiue blasting. He would eventually run out and have to recharge if he kept his eyes open all day.

I dunno how long it takes him to recharge, but it takes his brother Havok 16 hours after he is fully expended. This doesn't mean anything though cause they get energy from different sources but I just wanted to say it cause I'm cool and to make my post a little longer.

Cyclops certainly looked spent after his X3 hissy ocular fit.

I think he was emotionally spent. See, he was all pissed off because he knew that a giant pencil eraser was about come down and completely remove his character from the movie with nearly no acknowledgment what so ever.

I wasn't going from comic lure because the writers behind all of the x-men movies obviously didn't 😉 No, i only said that because i am fairly certain that i heard that in one of the movies. I only remember it because it was yet another thing that conflicted with the comics.
