I don't know, it could be a gimmick to go too far off the map that people give him plaudits for a return to 'darker roots'. Whatever the hell that means since all of the Alien/AVP films have some degree of uncomfortable scenes.
But that - if its true - is too far, depending on how it's filmed. Pulp Fiction for instance never filmed it so that you saw everything but still gave you the impression that it was going on.
