And I agree. I never understood the two spaces argument.
"It's so you can tell that it's the end of the sentence and not a/n abbreviation/acronym/etc." I heard another say it was to make it easier to see and also to give the reader the indication that the sentence has ended.

Well, I'll tell you why. In the old days when we used type writers, we were taught to use two spaces. It had to do with words fitting the margins or something like that... Anyway, computers allow you to auto fit stuff and such that it is not needed anymore. However, in general, both ways are acceptable. I googled it.

That's all rubbish.
It is a carryover from the days of typewriters with monospaced typefaces to improve readability. Today, the use of proportionally spaced fonts makes it unnecessary to double space after a full stop.
