~ Blackest Night - Discussion Thread ~

i'm really surprised that Titans #3 had such a huge revelation...

why?

Not a big fan of this decision.

Atrocitus was a complete badass last issue.

Plus,if i'm being honest, i thought Titans was the best of the tie-in minies.

Anyone noticed that Blackest Night really took the gore-level up a notch? Seems like they're aiming for a slightly older audience than Marvel is, with their crossovers.

well, turning people to salt and ripping out hearts was always gonna be aimed at a slightlo older audience lol...

At least they've activley shown methods through which Black Lanterns can be overcome effectivly making the tie-ins somewhat important to the main event, instead of just the emotional impact/action sequences of the characters meeting dead ones.

that is true, which was good of them, though they sort of had to, didnt they? if the only way to beat a BL was to hit them with white/gl light, then we would have had gl's in all the books...

What I didn't like was that they beat the Black Lanterns in every tie-in. Imo, the tie-ins should have been about question, then struggle, and finally survival

Didn't Final Crisis also have one of the most important tie-ins.

Just doesn't seem like there's a lack of it. Batman showed us that they see by emotion, Superman showed us that the kryptonians have something to use against them, etc.

They have contributed a lot of info regarding how the BL operate. Problem is, it feels to me too much like staling for the main event. It's the problem with a monthly schedule, IMO, not Blackest Night itself.

Superman also gave us the answer to the question "Why aren't the Kryptonians doing anything right now?"

I mean, "they can't get out from their force shield" is a pretty decent answer, but it's a little disappointing. Kind of a cop-out.

The rest of the Superman mini was pretty great though. I always like seeing Clark and Connor fighting side-by-side even though it rarely happens.

Hey, anyone remember when Dan Didio said that "DCU is going to be a much brighter place post-IC?"

hahahaha

Since then, we've had Black Adam slaughter a country, the brutal gangland style killing of the Martian Manhunter, Teen Titans getting killed every twenty minutes, and now zombie versions of beloved childhood icons ripping out and eating people's hearts.

"superman beyond" was an essential read where FC was concerned.

Also, two of the best comics of all time. Up there with "All Star" and "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow" in terms of understanding Superman.

i absolutely agree. 👆

Because one was a brilliant revolution of the form, combining thousands of years of mytho-structurial literature with innovative and fresh ideas, and the other is continuity porn about zombie Superheroes?

(Not saying I'm not enjoying Blackest Night... it actually is a lot of fun)

That's no way to talk about FC! I mean, c'mon it did have some good things....I can't think of any right now....but there were some!

I mean, if I really have to provide a six thousand word argument about why Final Crisis is objectively better than anything to come out of
DC since Anatomy Lessons then I will.
