Never left the US and I want to this summer.

Where should I go and why?

Oh and in before:

"Hell and don't come back"
"Who cares, you suck"
"Someplace with no internet"
"Canada"

I would say for a week or less, and no more then 1000$ for flight/hotel.

Mexico, Argentina, or Brazil.

Closer to home and you will be treated like a god for your "Americano dollars".

Whereas somewhere far like Europe you will be treated like "Zee Americanz vouz stoopid".

Yeah...

(WD is currently saving some dimes for his trip to Machu Pichu in 2012)

Ahhh GAWD!

I live in Montreal.

My 3 favorite countries after ours are Mexico, Germany and South Korea. Mexico because its my motherland, and the other two because I lived there when I was in the Army, and all three countries are big beer drinking countries. And a lot of people say "Mexico doesn't count" because to them you ain't "worldly" unless it involves crossing an ocean, but that's dumb. What they really mean is if you go to Mexico don't go to someplace touristy like Cancun, go to deep Mexico where there aren't other Americans.

And why wouldn't I say I am American?

Exactly, say you're American, man. And whenever I'm in another country and they ask where I'm from and I say I'm American, for some reason they always want to know specifically where. "Whereabouts?" It's seems like just saying "The U.S." isn't enough; it's kinda funny. As if your average person from Berlin, for example, knows a lot about say...Montana or Wyoming.

Go to Russia - your image of Russia will shift significantly.

In what way?

The average German will know at least something about the US states, at the least they will know California, New York and Florida, and they will also know how different those places are, I mean it is a fair question, really, the US is about twice as big as the European Union and has a very diverse population depending on Geography.

So they only know the cliche places that you always see in movies? Then again, do they really know California? Do they know it's an agricultural powerhouse, or do they only know about Hollywood and L.A.?

Obviously depends on the person, but yeah, at the very least most Germans will know the stereotypical places, many will know more, though, perhaps have had friends who been there, or been there themselves.

But asking where you are from and striking up a conversation might lead to them learning more about the US and especially where you are from as well as perhaps you learning about how much they do know about the US.

It's why I love living in Ca. besides the weather, the food is great and extremely diverse. I go to the East Coast; the Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Persian, Indian, Mexican and Indonesian food just don't taste ese, ai, ian or can enough. That is if you can find some of them to begin with.

Stay out Norway. Seriously, too expensive.

Go Italy or France. Germany's relatively boring.

He's right. Go to Germany, the food's nice, the place is clean the view is great. But coming home you don't wish you were back in Germany.

Go to Italy or Egypt it's like magic. Sight seeing, enthusdiastic locals, fantastically different and tasty food. etc.

France is fairly boring too. It's like England but hotter.

Egypt is great - but a week is enough to see everything you need to see - more than that is too much. I love Egypt, but it is very poor, and it will be obvious once you're there. Unless you go to perfect your arabic, or just for the athmosphere, I'd suggest Morocco - there's always stuff to do there.

This is personal view of course - others may have different experiance.

It's a deal! Let's hang out. Drop me a line when you get here.
St Laurent is the ''happening street'', and you wanna go to the west of the island, since that is more English. Lots of cool places to go, excellent strip clubs, depends what kind of music you want and what kind of entertainment!

Do you do clubbing? I hope so.
Also, there are excellent places which brew their own beer, if you like beer, and there are some excellent house parties happening on the French side - to which you're now officialy invited by moi!

Where are you staying?

Montreal is an awesome place.

The people there are extraordinarily kind and helpful, everyone was very friendly when I went. Plus, tons of smoking hot chicks who speak french.

Did you ever make it to Petra while you were in the Middle East?

That is one place(of many) I regret not seeing while I was there.
