Follow the adventures of Darth Vader and you will. He did this against Boba Fett, among other times. This was done to laser shots as well, and you can't possibly say bullets > laser.

A Jedi can survive in water, as well as in poisonous gas and even in vacuum, all by indeed filtering their breathing.

In the films didn't Obi and Qui have those breathing things for underwater?
