The movie is not that amazing. I was hoping it would be a lot better than it was. That said, it had its moments, but overall it was meh, for me.
It's a loooong movie, and at points you kind of feel its very long, on the other hand it put a lot of effort in
Spoiler:
showing the girl and her twisted ways and things she did...etc
You do guess 'her secret' before it is reveled, and I was not all that amused with it.
Just wait for it on DVD or borrow it from someone.
Originally posted by BackFireI think the only time a kid in a horror movie is scary is usually when there not trying top be, anyone notice how people were scared of the kid in the original omen but not the one in the remake?, I think its the perception of innocence that made the kid scary. When they put all the black make up on them and try to have them look evil it comes off as more pretentious than anything.
The twins in The Shining is the ONLY exception I can think of. All the others, nope, not scary at all. The girl in this movie isn't scary either, just annoying.
I'm quite surprised, a newspaper film critic here who gives most, and I mean most, films here either a 1 star rating or a turkey(deserves no rating because it's so crap), gave Orphan four out of five stars.
He also said some scene in the film he was very surprised with because he has never seen it done in any other film?

It does not deserve that. I have no idea what the dealio is with the film critics.I did not like the movie, I did not like Book of Blood, I did not like a lot of ones I went to see, upon my great dissapointment.
But this one had potential to be good, but it wasn't it just simply was not.
I don't know why a lot of you do not like this movie to me it was one of the most insane movies I have seen.
Granted I rarely watch Horror films or Thrillers. I checked out a lot of reviewers for this movie and a few of them said there were heaps of 'Jump Scares' there were absolutely no serious jump scares.
Now I am going to be posting a lot of spoilers so to make it easy i am just going to put the whole thing in spoiler tags.
Spoiler:
I fail to see how you could guess That she was actually a 30+ year old woman who had faked being a young girl to get into an orphanage to get into a family to break it apart and seduce the father. Which if she couldn't seduce the father she would kill them all and burn them.Because it sets the premise that something was wrong with the mother i.e She was taking pills and she had that dream in the beginning. It also 'told' the viewer there was something wrong with Esther, and the viewer is led to believe that it was because of surviving a raging inferno that killed her family.
I have heard some people calling it ludicrous? How so? The movie is explained intricately and makes sense more so then Die Hard 4.0, Twilight and Harry Potter. It does suspend ones belief unlike all of those.
Anyway I thought this movie was better then my previous No. 1 film Pirates of the Carribean which is now slotted alongside Pandorum. The best thing about this movie was that I thought this most of the way: Holy shit Esther is awesomly crazy and shit is getting ****ed up.
Also this movie is not scary and it doesn't try to be. It kind of works like Silent Hill.
Well it's certainly not worthy of number 1 film ever... seriously.
Anyway, I saw this last night and enjoyed it. I knew the twist before seeing it though but really liked the
Spoiler:
change in the character once you find out she is really 33 years old.
Brilliant acting from the actress who played Ester. One of the better horror films to come out lately, but it's not a classic.

My jaw is dropped.
