Beyonder may be beyond Cube being level too,
he was already tampering with the Multiverse in the Scathan arc,
and Eternity's bio states that
post-retcon Beyonder is credited with almost destroying 616 Eternity,
in the Secret Wars arc, in fact,
it goes on to make canon the fact that Eternity needed to use Beyonde's bane,
to try and defeat Beyonder (post-retcon now)
This suggests that Beyonder is more powerful than 616 Eternity,
in which case this would make post-retcon beyonder far beyond an average Cube being.
Death's bio also gives post-retcon Beyonder the credit for erasing her from existence.
btw* ... Beyonder's death able to wreck the prime Multiverse,
or Beyonder's Multiversal tampering,
took place after the Kubik speech about Kosmos & himself being below Celestials,
so I smell a retcon. (but perhaps concerning only Beyonder who is a special case)
Remember, while Cube beings may be below Celestials & Abstracts,
an unrestricted Cube is far beyond,
proven when Thanos replaced 616 Eternity with a single Cube.
(perhaps Beyonder has developed unrestricted powers, as Owen has)

1) They only guessed a cosmic cube was at work and they were wrong, and perhaps the Badoon actually had something more like the HOTI, or access to some of its power.
2) The writers actually thought that cubes were that powerful, even though cube beings said otherwise.
3) Crap writing in an attempt to get some big shock value from a few panels. Let's face it, it wouldn't be the first time writers have used this sort of poor technique (Galactus defeated and used as a battery by some earth heroes in FF is another one that comes to mind). It really doesn't add anything to the story and in the long run diminishes the characters involved.
4) They were some sort of low-level Celestials, left behind at the end of the Universe after the other more powerful Celestials had ascended to join the Fulcrum. Or something like that.

one Cube was used to give every individual hero & villain their own Universe,
where each would become God of said individual Universe,
they even called the Cube "God in a box"
In the Chaos Engine Trilogy,
one baby Cube, nearly collapsed the Omniverse,
Roma had to interfere and PIS her way into fixing the situation.

Yes I know, I was just pointing out that Vance said "we think they have a cosmic cube", but from that statement he obviously wasn't sure and we didn't see it. It left at least a little room for the possibility it was something else. I just suggested HOTI as a purely hypothetical explanation.

The CC seemed very powerful in those old Thanos appearances, although I seem to recall he later thought that the IG and HOTI were on a higher level (makes sense I guess because have Thanos as a less powerful threat than he was before doesn't sell a Marvel Event). Been a while since I have read a lot of the CC stuff.

I don't take much notice of anything in the Earth X arc, since it was all so different from mainstream continuity. The CE sounds interesting but I have never followed the Marvel novels stuff either.
