Good Free AntiVirus?

typical story, i need some for my poor pc but i cant afford any good stuff.

so can someone recommend a decent free antivirus that i can use until i can afford to buy some? ive heard that avg is really good but ive heard it isnt the best? is this true?

AVG is used by a lot of people. you could try that...

I'm not a fan of AVG myself.

Try out Avast or Avira. I used to use Avast, I switched over to Avira when I was told that it's much less of a resource hog. Both work very well and I've had no issues with either.

i don't actually use avg, so i'll remember not to pick it up in future...

Avast is one of the top virus protection programs out there, consuming relatively little resources, and capturing malicious data much more efficiently than other software other.

It won the VB100 award. It was one of a few software programs to actually pass all of the tests.

I highly recommend Avast.

AVG is also good. I believe it passed the tests for VB100 this month, as well.

avg/avast/avira + threatfire + Advanced System care

As far as free AV goes, Avira is undoubtedly the class leader.

I'm a member of Wilders Forums (security software specialists)..
So you can have my word for it.

Avast is a close second, only because it lacks heuristics.

But you won't go wrong with any of the Three Big A's (Avira, Avast, AVG).
Just make sure you're NOT running 2 or more AV programs on your PC.

I used AVG in the past but I hated it. Now I use Cyberdefender. You can download the free scanner off of their website. The full version also have 24/7 technical support that is AMAZING! I would definitely recommend Cyberdefender.

You can try the new Microsoft Security Essentials.

It works on Windows XP, Vista, and 7

What this cat said. I took it on his recommend; it works well and isn't a resource hog. Using Avast on all my comps.

Download and register, they'll send you a free activation code for a year. Then just repeat, I believe.

I also tried AVG, didn't like it as much, though it did have an easier to use interface.

I use AVG together with Windows Defender and Firewall, Ad Aware, and Spybot Search and Destroy. Prior to having Windows Vista I also used Sygate Personal Firewall.

The best right now is arguably Qihoo 360 Internet Security.

Makes sure you turn on the BitDefender module.

I have a good free antivirus cleaner.... butr no real anti virus... and if I tell you soemthging it can be true today and change tomorrow so....

Take adw cleaner.

Too many antivirus is not the best option... Trust me...

That recommendation was made 5 years ago.
Move on.

Tbh, there is NO such thing as a best antivirus for FREE.

The best freeware AVs you can download and install are probably Comodo Internet Security 2015 (includes Firewall and HIPS; for advanced users) or Panda Cloud Antivirus (for novice users).

Personally, I prefer Qihoo 360 Total Security.

If you can spend some cash for superior PC security, then I recommend Norton 360. The best AV, imo.

Malwarebytes Anti-malware + Microsoft Security Essentials combo works great for me.

AVG and Avast Free versions are pathetic.

MBAM is great indeed.

Adwcleaner has become a part of Malwarebytes:

MBAM had a big update, not sure I like the new look.

I use AVAST and it's not that great
