How do the blue lantern rings disrupt the green lantern rings?

Why did Hal Jordan want to get rid of the blue ring so badly when it boosted his power so very much? I know there was some sort of disruption the blue caused to green rings? But what was it exactly, overloading? Could some one clarify?
