Here's another question - what if Anakin stood by and let Mace kill Sidious?

Then Sidious would die, his reign would end, the OT would never happen, and Anakin would be consumed with greif that he wouldn't be able to prevent Padme's death, which either means that Padme doesn't die or he does something that unintentionally makes Padme die.
