Dark Samus (You know, who Samus beat) has survived the destruction of planets, and even other dimensions, hell, at the end of Metroid Prime 3, she actually becomes a planet, bonding with the planet Phaaze.
Also, we know ships in Metroid are at the very least faster than Halo ones, not being confined to a single galaxy.
