New Swamp Thing Movie

New movie of Swamp Thing In Development

Source:LA Times October 20, 2009

The LA Times Blog have run a fascinating article on Akiva Goldsman, writer on a handful of Ron Howard's most esteemed films such as A Beautiful Mind, Cinderella Man and The Da Vinci Code, as well as Will Smith's I Am Legend and (uh-hem) Batman & Robin. He stepped behind the camera to direct a few episodes of Fringe, but is most currently attached to produce several comic book properties for the big screen.

One project of note is the new version of Swamp Thing, currently in-development. Goldsman told the publication that Swamp Thing will be closer in tone to the character as presented in Alan Moore's eerie, metaphysical horror comics rather than the rubber-suit bog creature from the 1982 Wes Craven movie.

"We want a film with real Southern, dark horror overtones, a little bit like a classic Universal horror film," he says, knowing full well that his presence on the project will stir controversy -- it's a character that filmmaker Guillermo del Toro has called one of the "few remaining Holy Grails" in comics.

I don't trust Akiva Goldsman. I generally don't like the films he writes.
And he's mentioned for several DC properties that are just sitting in development and never get made, like Doom Patrol.

Now, there's nowhere to go but up with Swamp Thing as a movie property. But can they re-read the Alan Moore run, before they think this should be a cheap horror film?

As long as its better then the previous attempts.

Explosion-s. Many. The man is like Jerry Bruckheimer; can't have a film without them.

How about David Cronenberg as director? he would be right for this project.
