When I was younger I couldn't stand Kirk. But now I have gotten older I respect the guy.

I always enjoyed Kirk's style much more, but if I had to pick one to actually be the captain of my ship, I would likely go with Picard since he was the more logical of the two. Kirk would be fun to party the universe with but Picard would be more likely to save my arse if there was a serious threat that involved more then just hand-to-hand combat or hot alien chicks.
