No not really, its usually a preference but I find diamonds to be too gaudy for my taste, every girl apparently loves diamonds... guess I'm different

Traditionally it's 1 diamond for the engagement ring, a gold ring for wedding and multiple diamonds for the eternity ring. Whatever floats your boat though.

oh ok... well, I don't like diamonds... I like rubies, emeralds and sapphires... we're still using gold, just white gold for our wedding bands though... yellow/rose gold is too gaudy imo
