Happy Anniversary Fall of the Berlin Wall

In yo face you "Che Guevara" red t-shirt wearing hippies!

Today is the day we marked the anniversary of the fall of COMMUNISM! That's right! the day Capitalism triumph over a hack ideology stolen from the great Karl Marx.

Where were you when the wall crumble?

I was in elementary school watching the news with the teachers (actually I sneek into the teachers lounge and watch)

Proud to be a capitalist pig. Thank you Regan and Mr Gorbachev.

U2 played a concert at the wall

how did they keep out people who didn't have tickets?

They built a 2 meter wall, at the site of the Berlin wall, to keep people out.

So we need to make Che style t-shirts with Hasselhoff's face on them?

HA, I'd buy it

Me too! See how capitalism works DJ? 😛

um, what? Um, yeah. Capitalism works great for selling t-shirts. It just doesn't work for natural monopolies, law enforcement, banking or social services. But selling food, clothing, electronics, cars, non-essential crap and 90% of stuff you can buy in stores and on the internet? Sure, fine.

😂

Wasn't it supposed to be a free concert too?

I was working as a casino dealer in Vegas at the time. Having been to the former East Germany in the early 80s I thought, and still think, this was a good thing and it has very little to to with economic ideologies as opposed to which Empire (America or Russia) would be dominant in world affairs at the time.

I also feel capitalism is a good thing, as long it's regulated.

I'm unsure, either way you had to have a ticket

They said it was supposed to be for public safety. Probably to prevent a repeat of the Hutsfred Hole show but I kinda doubt that could happen here.

But Soviet Russia was Stalinist...

The concert was free, so why did anyone need tickets?

Probably to make sure the venue wasn't overcrowded and was compliant with safety regulations.

Even if it was for free I would still pay to see U2 live.

I'm fan...

http://blog.inmusic.ca/inmusic/2009/07/bono-accused-of-hypocrisy-again.html

the trucks fleet was so big and the shows so extravagant, if U2 were playing a show in Toronto on Monday, the crew would already be setting up in Montreal for the next show as U2 was on stage. The carbon footprint of the tour being astounding.

I'm too young to have any real attachment to the band, and only got into War in the past couple of years (and to be honest, I heard a side of Joshua Tree on the radio and thought it was decent). To me, its almost a case like Madonna. I can look back at what they were and what they meant, and appreciate what they did then, but what they have become is what I grew up with. **** Bono

Things and people change...what can I say?

no, totally

all I'm saying is that the change happened before I had a chance to know the "real" (or good) U2. I can look back on it, but that is all sort of prefaced in the fact that modern Bono is a douche bag.
