If you pay close attention to the end of Twilight, you see the Cullens' surrounding James, which strongly implies such. In the book it's directly stated.

It's presumed such an attack wouldn't outright kill the rock golems, but that was only the initial assault. As Bella starting fading out and the camera went to fuzzy "AHMAHGAH'MDYIN'" mode, the Cullens' with their faces down in something can be seen tossing bits into the fire occasionally.

I honestly couldn't tell you. As far as I know there's been no instance of the rock golems facing up against guns to use as evidence in either direction.
