Ripoff Live Shows and Movies by Conservative Personalities

This is great.

For being hyped as this super influential crazy ass guy who's popular with all disaffected Americans, Beck's new movie and live show has sold Tens, LITERALLY TENS!!! of tickets in several major cities. Tickets arrogantly sold for double the price of regular tickets despite low production values.

Maybe conservatives are figuring out that just because someone is vaguely entertaining on the radio or television, doesn't mean they can make a movie or work up an engaging live show or have any creative talent to speak of?

A lot of them were burned on a Michael Savage tour where they shelved out a hefty chunk to watch Savage sit on a couch and make lame ass MST3K style comments that weren't funny on a couple of videos and a slide show.

I'm not even going to go into Sarah Palin screwing her fans over on her little book tour.

My question is this. I'm someone who has gotten burned by people I like, most recently by Kevin Smith. Usually I react according by not supporting them for awhile or ever again by buying their shit or going to their shows. Why do some people keep coming back or supporting people based on ideology or self-delusion who are completely ripping them off?

I'd rather stick needles in my eyes than spend more than 10 seconds watching anything based on anyone's life.

Beck is not Patrick Stewart, that's for sure.

My dad went to a Savage show at one point and it was...sad.

My dad says he packed a theater selling tickets at like $175 a pop, gave an improvised, speech where he yelled like Hitler for 15 minutes and then sat down on a couch that was onstage and made little snide remarks on slides and like, youtube clips for another hour an a half. I don't care what your ideology is or who you like, but why would you pay nearly 2 bills to watch someone sit on a couch and scratch his balls while showing you a ****ing slide show?

The only political activist I would have ever paid to go and see would be Mark Thomas.

Jello Biafra is entertaining for hours at a time. Howard Zinn and Noam Chomsky are definitely not. But again, they never charge more than 20 bucks.

This is pretty lolz. Even in his home town, he only sold like 100 tickets? Worldwide this hasn't gotten 1000 viewers likely. Looks like ol' beck's on his way out. Now we have to see what nutjob's going to take his place.

I still watch Beck's show because I think he's a good laugh. I'm more interested in hearing how the OP got burned by Kevin Smith.

I don't understand how people can watch his show. I put him on for 5 minutes and get a headache. Constant yelling of logical fallacies, loaded questions and willful ignorance and forced sarcasm. He's also one of the most spectacularly witless and unfunny people I've ever seen.

I find it fascinating to watch the current rumblings of the current "fringe"(Even if they aren't so fringe) movement in America. If nothing else, self righteous and insane conservatives are more entertaining than self righteous and insane liberals.

How have you been burned by Kevin Smith?

Personally I prefer Olbermann.

Nah, conservatives are more high profile. The insane liberals express their ideas via webcomics.

He schedules a show two days before my birthday, the ticket price is 69 bucks. After selectively selling cheaper tickets in other markets, he promises autographed books and after show hangouts with people who paid 70 bucks instead of 45 instead of refunds...everywhere but Denver. He then cancels the sold out show 11 days beforehand to watch a ****ing focus group watch a film he didn't even write and do a radio interview. Curiously, he doesn't cancel a show he's doing in Canada the next day. It ruins my weekend plans, makes me pissed off after arguing with livenation for 45 minutes before they agree to a refund, he promises a show in the spring and apparently decides that he'll make it up in Kansas City (he has admitted he sucks at geography), and his show cancellation apart from pissing off the entire city is part of an unprecedented wave of last minute show cancellations form major performers that has left many of the major venues in Denver on the verge of bankruptcy, threatening the entire music scene.

Can you imagine selling out a show, getting all the alcohol and amenities (where the real money is at) ready and then suddenly losing all the money you spent on prep with no way to recoup it? I have a feeling that Slim Cessna or Lez Zepplin or Pee Pee or one of the other local acts isn't going to be able to bail them out of this one.

nothing curious about that 🙂

I guess it's ironic that one of the main focuses in his story is success lol
