What was the last time the X-men were good?
With all due respect, barring the rare entertaining arc or run, X-Men largely carry the curse of being shit with them across the ages.
Matt Fraction's run on Iron Man has been likened to Miller's run on Daredevil. I don't necessarily agree, but it's awesome. His Thor is also good.
His X-Men? Abominable. It's not a coincidence that good writers turn out shit when writing for X-Men.
Morrison's run was a big change in many ways, which was why it worked. Had he tried to write X-Men how it's usually written it would have sucked.
