Exactly...In fact this is the entire mantra when it comes to the EU as well...I've said it before. Lucas will be sitting in his office made of money and gold and someone will come in and say "we've had this idea of putting this character into the official storyline in a book/dvd/game/whatever" and before they can even finish the 1st question Lucas will ask is "Is it any good?" and the person will obviously say yes because it's their idea...To which Lucas will say "Will it make me a ton of money?" to which they will also say yes and Lucas will say "Then it's canon".
He won't read it...He won't care how much it ****s up the timeline or the existing canon because the chances are he hasn't read most of that either. He's care more about getting an artist to visualize the character in a new novel because that means if it's popular then he can then make a toy out of the character and make yet even more money.
Case in point?
I use Thrawn as the example because, as I've stated already, it's the only EU i'm really familiar with.
*incapable
And another thing: His qualities are informed abilities only; there has been no substantiation through demonstration of his abilities other than "Thrawn uses the [x] maneuver. [x]Maneuver is super effective against Squid! Squid faints! Thrawn gains 55 exp."
He has bupkis.
Edit: but this isn't supposed to be a referendum on the EU as a whole. This is to decide if Sidious is "r win" at this point.
Thrawn was cool, but in retrospect, his abilities seemed a little strange.
In an ideal world, the trio would win.
You have three enormously gifted duelists and combatants given certain intellectual and psychological advantages and preparation against a lone warrior who hasn't had the benefit of dueling practice in over a decade. In a world where a random padawan can hold her own briefly against a terrifyingly skilled and powerful Jedi-killer (Ahsoka v. Grievous), where a random Jedi Master can fend that same Jedi-killer and a small group of bodyguards off (Koth v. Grievous), where thirty pirates can capture an extraordinarily deadly Sith Lord (Dooku), and where a reckless Jedi Knight who exhibits remarkable promise but little in the way of actual knowledge can nearly defeat the same Sith, you'd think that they could manage to land a victory here.
On the other hand, despite Kenobi's awesome skill with a lightsaber, he's clearly got little in the way of a solid Force defense. Dooku, harried and outnumbered by Kenobi and Skywalker, was still able to disable the former with minimal effort thanks to the Force. Jinn is also a capable duelist, but has shown even less in terms of Force mastery. I would argue that Sidious -- a more cunning, cagey opponent than Dooku who is even quicker to manipulate the environment -- would be more than capable of killing or disabling the lesser Jedi immediately.
And then it comes back down to Dooku v. Sidious and, as Lucien has said, the Count masturbated nightly to Sidious's power.
If Palpatine plays smart, he canwill win this.
