That means they got it waaaay wrong in the film because, not only did they make the dilophosaurus smaller than it really is, they made the velociraptor much larger than it really was, AND larger than the dilophosaurus: all inaccuracies. I remember as a kid, wondering how they got it so wrong. But, as an adult, I know it was about the merchandising and selling the story.
Clearly Velociraptor is a cooler name than the dinosaur that they partially based it on...Which was a Deinonychus (although that was feathered and had wings as did the Raptor). Which is a very close relation to the Velociraptor (except bigger obviously)
I believe the novel also mentioned Deinonychus as being classed as a Velociraptor but this was never transferred to the film.
