Well, largely thanks to my current Dylan obession, I've been writing a bit lately, both just poetry and also stuff intended for song lyrics. Anyway, this is basically the first thing I've actually finished. I've no idea if it's any good.

THE WAVE

The scorching desert sands,

They rise,

The merry rebel bands,

They ride,

The solemn wise men,

They lead,

Slaves, prisoners, lost men,

They’re freed

The mindless worker bees,

They slave,

The suited, fat queen bees,

They bathe,

The betrayed, deceived troops,

They fall,

While the rich men in suits

Still call

Surrounded by power,

I stand,

No more than any flower,

Grain of sand,

Easily forgotten,

Among those,

Who are exalted by them,

At the close

Across the richest lands,

We live,

And from our unclean hands

Don’t give,

From president to clerk,

We’ve won,

Until we see, with a jerk,

It’s gone

The wide, rampaging seas,

They swell,

Over warm, safe homes where

We dwell,

Over the rebel bands,

They sweep,

Over the richest lands,

They leap

And the oceans, they fall,

Over me,

Over road, house and wall,

Of the free,

And for each achievement,

We wonder,

What it all really means,

In the thunder

And they will all be gone,

Each one,

President and monarch,

Like us,

No longer different,

Special,

We’ll all be forgotten,

Long gone,

Each smile, each death, each kiss,

The same
