Yeah, reading the series it's plain to see the guy was awesome because of his intelligence not because he was unbeatable.

They're beyond the Endless, who are far beyond Thanos scope.
They're beyond the Endless, who are far beyond skyfathers bracket, which Thanos has never had a legitimate win over anyone in, in pure combat.

Even Superman's beaten legitimate gods and universe conquerors by himself. Thanos? Not so much.

Most of the characters in the series weren't beyond Thanos' scope anyways. The endless really don't do much to cement themselves power wise and Lucy was depowered all the friggin time and when he was powered up he wasn't impressive combat wise.
