What one would you choose?

And why? For greater job opportunity, personal choice, more attractive to the opposite sex etc

I always fancied learning Arabic for some reason. Pretty sure that would take me a massive amount of time and be of little use, being the only downside.

German. I'm currently (and failing miserably) trying to learn German. I have a few basic things down-pat. I've wanted to learn German for years but now that I am into Rammstein it'd be nice to be able to understand their lyrics without having to look at translations. Plus my friend and his wife are going to Norway next summer and would like us to go and said he'd also like to fly to Germany.

Eh? Are you making food? What accent is that supposed to be? because it isn't very British.. We don't say y'all,

That's the stereotype of the American southern accent.

Oh right, because I said I had a southern accent.

What's funny is that our Southern accents are actually more eloquent on the whole than the Northern accents, which is sort of the reverse in the states.

Can you name any British Counties?

hey, lets stay focus on you..
snatch quote:

Avi: Blagged? Speak English to me, Tony. I thought this country spawned the ****ing language, and so far nobody seems to speak it.

The snatch quote is quite accurate really. Regional accents are very abundant in the UK so very few speak English like you'd imagine the English to speak.

I do though, which is quite strange considering I've lived no further south than Newcastle (one of England's most northern cities). It just runs in the family I guess. My father comes from Kent and he speaks RP too, as does my Mother (which is weird as she is from Derbyshire)

yeah, i know how it is, its the same all over the world. americans in general are the same way we all have our regional accents and that is not including the young pups and their slang and ebonics.

plus i speak proper grammar spanish with a slight american english accent and it doesnt help me all that much when it comes to your every day of the mill mexican, puerto rican, Salvadorian who have their own street spanish..

my spanish is more suited for a bunch of squares in suits who are probably in an office setting.

Do the Americans have an equivalent of our recieved pronunciation (the accent that people instantly think of when they think of English, the posh one)? An accent that is used by people like national news anchors?

they usually stay in high top city buildings and away from the general america,,,

to me they are jusy pompous @$$holes kinda how i would imagine some brits feel about madonna when she speaks british english..

I've always loved Fraiser's accent.

I've recieved stick for my accent before. People don't like people with accents that make them sound posh. There are a number of times I have dumbed down my accent as it were. It's annoying, I have the accent but not the money.

As for Madonna speaking with a British accent, she sounds a bit drunk really. She slurs her words.

There is a newcaster accent but I don't think it has a name.

i wouldn't mind if someone spoke english with a certain posh accent.. my problem is when you ask them where are they from and they answer oh.. downtown new york or los angeles then it isnt a normal accent but a forced one... that is why i got mad at a particular friend who came out of the closet and changed his voice pattern..

Now that I think of it....Mandarin would be nice to learn.

Oh yeah, actually my #1 choice would be Norwegian or Swedish.

Japanese.

If you were able to learn 1 other language.

Body.

Palo Alto, Mountain View, Cupertino, San Jose, Sunnyvale, Berkeley

Yeah, keeping up with the tech....

Arabic. I find it very nice sounding as well as huge number of its native speaker.
I would love to speak with a Syrian dialect, although Egyptian one sounds good too.
