Don't know very much about the ol' Red Arremer. Except that I kick his ass wit ol' Arthur in Ghosts N' Goblins. I have read that the Crest makes cats hyper powerful/omnipotent and control over space and time and stuff. Seein' as how I never played any of his games, I'm not sure if it's all just hyperbole or not.
Gotta say though, The GnG series has to be THE HARDEST set of (good) games to have ever existed and that's 99% fact (look it up). I love those old games. I didn't play'em 'til late but I use to watch my brothers play it for hours when I was younger. They would get crushed everytime. It was like watchin' The Johnny 5 scene, where he got mangled, over and over.

He did not have the crest N GnG. He does not obtain it until the end of Demon's Crest.
PS. N the US he is called Firebrand. The Red Arremer/Red Devil is his Japanese name, his real name.
Just played Demon's Crest (emulator). Dude is strong but he aint beatin' Jedah.
Jedah is a multiversal demonic entity wit ludacris soul reiping powers and 100% Godly immortality. Not to mention the millions beyond millions of degrees it would take to incinerate the guy in 1st place. The best Red can do is BFR him and all Jedah has to do is slice through time and space and step right back into the dimension.
Jedah makes a blood puddle, warps reality and drags'im under.
