Just as I thought, the win against Spain in the confed cup wasn´t a fluke. The USA played well especially in the first half showed a lot of passion and deserved the draw even thought Greene´s mistake was the sort of thing U11 kids make, pathetic!
After that peformance I can´t see England getting past the 1/4 finals, they just don´t play together and wellying balls up the field toward Heskey or Crouch isn´t the sort of strategy that wins you World Cups.

I think Green making that mistake will encourage him to play better, but Hart must definately play against against Slovenia, and maybe Hart in the majority of games.

England actually had a very good game. It was not perfect but a great stepping stone. Anyone who thinks that the US deserved a draw is wrong, England were simply dominant, They only got it due to the Green fumble, something that couldn't have been accounted for.
The "Heskey played well but didn't score" arguement is a silly one... Heskey isn't really in the squad to score, he is there because he is a fantastic team player who creates chances. Granted he should have put away that chance but as I said the game was a great stepping stone.
People can jump and attack England like they always do when England does anything but win but I'm not going to. There is a lot to take out of that game agaisnt the US and I still believe that we're favourites to finish the group on top.

They don´t need this or that player, they need a system. Smacking the ball upfield isn´t a good strategy. Especially against teams like Spain or Argentina who will just keep the ball all game.

The selection of players changes the tactics.
With Heskey and Rooney, Rooney is CF and Heskey assists. With Crouch and Rooney, Crouch is CF and Rooney assists.
Defoe is brilliant at counter attacks, and charging upfield, he does it for Tottenham all the time. Had Defoe charged up and not Heskey, it would've gone in, and that would've made it 2-1, and that would've secured our position of 1st.

Well no. Im just being honest of my assessment of the game. England had an OK game marred by a typically daft goal, nothing more.
And no the Heskey argument isn't silly. Heskey is good but as the cup progresses we need a scorer because we wont get many more chances at that level. Gerrard should be behind rooney and barry sould start the next game holding for england so that lampard can attack. lampard had a bad game because he was worried about attacking due to gerrard. Its important for Barry to be fit.
And im not being entirely negative. They didnt lose, and its good to get that bad howler out of the way. And the way algeria and slovenia are playing at the moment, it should be a good 6 points.
But England have to concentrate more. I can tell you 1 single silly incident in every major tournament since 1998 which has pretty much cost us the cup.
Has anyone noticed that the level of goaliekeeprs at this tournament is dramatic? Not just Green, but Algeria's goalie made a huge mistake, Mexico's goalie was a disgrace to the World Cup etc. The only goalies that have had impressive performances were from Nigeria and South Africa.
I didn't see the entire England-USA match, but from what I saw the US' defence was terrible. England didn't impress me much either, but then I didn't expect them to play that well in this stage of the tournament anyway.
I had to correct a couple of my predictions already, I think the first two groups are going to be quite exciting when it comes to what teams are going to go through.
Ohh England what have we done now.
USA first half was dreadful we can all admit to that, they got the lucky goal at the end there that really set them off second half. The US played a remarkable match I am going to give them that, Tim Howard is just brilliant.
Why oh why was DeFoe not in? Why was King starting over Carragher? Why is GReene in the damned net in the first place? He's had a rough season with West Ham, I understood letting him play the full match it would kill him otherwise.
Bics right, they need a system. Football isn't just about who can score what goal it's about working together creating wonderous chances. Let's admit it, Gerrards first goal was a stunner not because of his footwork but because of the play that was setup. Rooney was asleep until the last ten minutes and he failed to produce anything worth while.
If England can keep the ball on the ground they'll score a lot more, smashing the ball up field hasn't worked, they witnessed that last night.
It's early though, I have no doubt that England will progress out of the group stages but they need to shape up as a team.
I was so disappointed 🙁
But, we can only look forward now can't we?
