Spider-man: Shatter Dimensions

YouTube video

Finally a spider-man game that looks stunning and actually tries to look good.

Fun fact: the Guy that voices Noir voice acted the 90s Spider-Man cartoon.

😬

Does this mean I have to say goodbye to free-roam Spidey?

You mean the worst thing in spiderman? Yes. Personally I feel it was that feature that was holding it back from becoming good. Plus in this one, you demision hop between Noir's and Spider man's so free roam will not play right for this one.

It is confirmed that you will play as four Spider Men each with their different gameplay.

What? How is free roaming ala GTA throughout the city a bad thing? I loved Ultimate Spider-Man simply for that.

Now that I think about it...Arkham Asylum gameplay Spider-Man would work out okay.

I'm looking forward to this

They would really need to improve on Arkham Asylum gameplay to make it non-limiting on Spidey. A great combat system is what holds Spider-Man games back, free roaming is a fantastic feature for him.

Lol at free roam being bad. That was literally the only gameplay element that made Spider-Man 2 worth playing past the 8 hours or so that the main plot took to beat. And it certainly helped with Ultimate and 3 as well. I've seen reviews that are nostalgic for those mechanics (which were executed the best in 2), so it's not just me.

Combine what Moo said with an upgrade and tweak on Spider-Man 2's web swinging mechanic (and general movement such as Web Zips, Crawling, Wall Sprinting, Air Tricks), and we'll have ourselves the best Spidey game yet.

Spider-man 2 was plagued with horrible combat, or rather, useless foes. The combat itself was decent, but the foes were piss easy. The rest of the gameplay was good though. Pizza delivery missions were cool. Side-quests like that, while seemingly out of place in a game like Shattered Dimensions, should be there IMO.

WoS, though I haven't played it, looks alright. Apparently the web-swinging mechanic is somewhat of a throwback to older Spidey games, which bloody sucks.

Playing with 4 different styles might be a little too much though. Assuming that the 4 styles are unique (with certain similarities such as crawling and stuff) I hope the game is very long, or at least has enough gameplay to let people get used to each of the styles.

That said, if they're going to make it free-roam in basically 4 different areas, it'd be fricking sweet.

I didn't even think about WoS's swinging until after I was halfway through the story.

You should really rent Web of Shadows at least. It's a buy for it's fantastic combat if you ask me, but always rent things first. It even had really cool wall combat.

Yeah this is basically Batman Arkham Asylum only spiderman, and thats what I like about it 😎 Only good spiderman games were the PS1 game and the PS2 spiderman 2 movie game, free roam was fun and the Ock battles I had...amazing

From the trailer, the gameplay might be pretty good, what with the web ball throwing and stuff.

I have to disagree. The free roam aspect is what made the, Spiderman games worth playing. Well, that and the incredible swing physics and animations. Being able to freely roam New York as a vigilante not only makes sense, it's what every super-hero fan wants to be able to do. The free roam was great. Not being able to do anything other than swing around is what made the games shit. If you didn't want to play the poorly written story quests you could patrol the city and save civilians. However, little focus went into this as there were only a half dozen or so events that encouraged you to save people. These events repeated themselves over and over and coupled with the questionable combat system, this stayed entertaining for only so long.

Perhaps if the stories were interesting and the story quests were well designed the games may have been worth playing. Do you really think this game is going to be any different? Given this franchises track record. I'm going to assume that the developers simply took out the free roam because it's the most time consuming aspect of the game in order to pump out yet another piece of shit, quickly

Yeah, I should get WoS. After playing the earlier SM installments fairly religiously, I never picked it up.

But honestly, if you're not swinging around a cityscape or other large environment, what's the point? All that's left is a hyped-up fighting game, not an actual SM game. So I'll partially co-sign the above comment. I don't make judgements before I've played a game, but if they remove too much of the web-swinging mechanics, it's going to alienate a lot of people.

BAUMP.

i) 3 new villains are revealed in a recent SM-SD video: Kraven the Hunter (Amazing), Goblin & Hammerhead (Noir). Steroids is the first thing that comes to me mind.

ii) The 3rd Dimension will apparently be the 2099-verse. Top-of-the-wrist spinnerets, here we come.

No surprises there, though might be fun to play with Miguel, considering he can bite people and paralyze them. Telescopic vision being included would be ossum.
Looks like Miguel's cape isn't available. Wish they include it into his arsenal. Falling off from the top of a skyscraper & kissing the pavement whilst suffering little to no damage, would be a cute little addition for 2099 Spider-Man. Then there's gliding with it as well...

iii) You guys think that we'll still get free-roam since we basically have four different dimensions to play in? It's certainly possible IMO. Maybe one area, where we can choose which version of Spidey we want to play with.
4 different versions of NYC for the 4 different dimensions would be my preference though.

Nice screens! This game look's good.

Awesome.

The developers stated there is still free roam. So i assume for all of them
