edit: I know he got told he's the Scientist Supreme by Eternity - wiki is helpful sometimes - but what feats does he have that have recently bolstered so much love?

Nah, the current Thanos is a naked, bumbling oaf that couldn't even kill Bug. Pym uses prep to get that fragment of the Cosmic Cube from P.E.G.A.G.U.S.E.S. and stomps him.
