you mean Silver Age Supes since that is the most powerful one from my understanding.
there were complaints about him being too powerful, from especially previous writers that used to write about him. so they decided to tone down his powers when the crisis aftermath happened

Supes was actually already a good bit weaker in the 80's, just before the crisis. Solomon Grundy knocked him out at the time, and he even got knocked out by a mass attack from an alien space fleet.
