Human Origins: Kadanuumuu 2010

New link in human evolution found in Ethiopia

In the Afar language of Ethiopia, he's called Kadanuumuu, and to the Ethiopia-born anthropologist who found his bones, he could be called "Big Man," or even "Big Guy."

But to everyone else interested in the discovery of new fossil evidence for the ancestry of the human lineage, he'll be known as "Lucy's great-grandfather."

A team of noted fossil hunters reports this week the discovery of a creature in the same species as Lucy, but at least 400,000 years older than that famed female whose discovery in 1974 was hailed as a major step in piecing together the story of human evolution.

From the newfound fossils, their leading discoverer says scientists have determined that the creature - nicknamed Kadanuumuu, but known scientifically as Australopithecus afarensis - walked upright on two feet. It means that bipedalism was fully established as a normal way of life in human ancestry at least 3.58 million years ago, when this remote forebear lived. -end snip

While I know you're joking, that is a common problem the scientific community faces when it comes to Evolution Theory the religious crowd.

They take it personally, when the two aren't necessarily opposing.

Ya, it's the bible that gets in the way.

What's strange is that I saw a TV show about this discovery almost a year ago, and it is coming out as if it was something new.

Only a very specific part of the bible, the God creating man from a pile of dirt; then creating woman from a ripped out man-rib. Even then, one could argue that Adam wasn't a human as we are know, as "in God's image" could mean any form the artist sees.

What if God did create the first man and woman; they just happened to look like something Charlton Heston fought.

Or they could have looked like single celled organisms? That is the problem with literalism vs metaphorical-ism; no one really knows.

On the contrary. She's very clever, trying to keep us sidelined with this science-schmience stuff.

That aside: discoveries like this make you wonder what else is out there we've yet to find, especially if it can upset the paradigm.

Cthulhu, for sure.

That´s also a totally different subject, abiogenesis!!

I don´t think finding a few skulls can answer the big question🙂

Especially as Homo Sapien´s remains have been found dated and near remains of other creatures we were supposed to have evolved from. for example Homo neanderthalensis (Neanderthal Man) was probably made extinct because of the superior homo sapiens (us)

And here´s a question creationists like to ask, if we evolved from apes, why are there still various kinds of apes swinging about in trees?

Did they forget to evolve?

That's not how evolution works. Not even slightly.

Pretty sure modern man didn't evolve from Neanderthals. We do share a common ancestor, but they branched away and went one path, while we continued onto another long before either reached their final destination.

There's been evidence discovered that Modern Man and Neanderthal encounters sometimes ended well and sometimes not.

And the creationists who ask that question get a 10/10 for failure to understand one of the most basic principles of evolution.
