giraiya is in top 5 strongest ninja

as sais by itachi and kisame he would kill them both even if at best chance they would still die along with him and no matter how many other ninja who came to help them the results would still be the same

kisame also said in the manga that giraiya could probably match up to the first hokage and seven sword shinobi probably him meaning kisame.

pain also said that giraiya could of defeated him on top of that he could of escaped pain and survived

if you look at the way pain destroyed konoha and he said that giraiya could of beat him
pain would have never attacked the village the way he did if giraiy was the fifth on top of that the village has somany joning and anbu also dont forget about kakashi

i think the makers of naruto made giraiya die against pain because because honestly from the facts having naruto and girayai together in battle equals you lose obviously

even though that im for giraya i know of itachis strenght

but i also believe if itachi didnt have amaterasu he would be shit tsukuyomi wont affect giraya itachi knos thats orochimaru called itachis sussanoo weak level of jutsu when sasuke fought itachi and orochimaru took over him he refeered to sussanoo as weak

I'd say Jiraiya would definitely WTF pwn Itachi and Kisame, at once.

Jiraiya would just have to summon mom and pop frogs, go sage mode, and WTF pwn Itachi. He should be fast enough to lay the beat down on Itachi.

Naruto showed that even getting a strike near the body of someone, not even landing a blow, is enough to use the sage energy to create a blast that is almost as strong as a punch. Granted, Naruto is a much better master of sage mode than Jiraiya, but the effect should still be there, if only lessened a little in Jiraiya.

On top of that, Jiraiya knows more Jutsu's than Naruto and is an expert combatant. It took the trickery of Pain to defeat Jiraiya and Pain said that had Jiraiya known of Pain's secret, he would have surely lost. I attribute that statement to Jiraiya's battle prowess, intelligence, and techniques. Naurot, who knew Pain's seceret, still could not defeat Pain. Granted, Pain did say that Naruto was the only person to beat Pain down as far as he did..but naruto KNEW about it.

So, basically, Jiraiya gets through Itachi's Sharingan by moving much faster than Itachi and Kisame, and using his Sage mode to dispell Genjutsu (mom and pop just have to dispell any genjutsu that Itachi casts.) Jiraiya should definitely be faster and stronger than Kisame, despite Kisame being a beast.

Jiraiya should be well more than fast enough to avoid Amaterasu, no problem, if he's in sage mode. An ultimate rasengan to Kisame's nuts and some sage mode phantom punches should be more than enough to take out both. Of course, this requires he be able to avoid death enough to summon mom and pop and then enter sage mode.
