Also, a troy ounce is worth $1332.5. A gold bar/ingot is 400 troy ounces.
The translators got the translation incorrect: it is tonnes, not tons.
Or maybe they got the translation correct as some countries spell "tonnes" as tons and it still means 1000 kilograms.
So doing some conversions:
2,000 tonnes = 2,000,000 grams
1 gram = 0.0321507466 troy ounces
2,000,000*0.0321507466 = 64301.4932 troy ounces.
64301.5 troy ounces * 1,332.50 (the value of a troy ounce) =
$85,681,739.7
That's not very much. There are much more valuable precious metals in other countries.
Gold is also not the only commodity traded on the stock market. Oil, natural gas, corn, wheat, etc. In fact, there are some items on there that are functionally more valuable AND they are renewable.

Basically, what Matsuena (the author) is saying is he has no clue how the stock market or even monetary power works in the real world.
