Grant Morrison on the movie:

“It took only a single viewing for ALL-STAR SUPERMAN to become one of my all-time favourite superhero movies. The adaptation by Bruce, Dwayne and the team is quirky, epic and heartbreaking and I don’t think I’ve seen anything else quite like it. A triumph, as they say!”

Just watched this. As I suspected, it seemed like a bit too much was crammed into such a relatively short film -- for instance, the scene where the 2 other Kryptonians arrive on earth and confront Superman (from issue #9 of the comic series) could have easily been cut, and something else added in its place (as it really didn't add anything to the film.) I also thought Solaris was poorly introduced and poorly handled as a whole.

Other then that I thought it was a pretty good flick -- it more or less followed the comics verbatim. But like I mentioned above, an extra 30-45 minutes would have been enough to take it from mediocre to excellent, imo.

It was good but not great.

Not to bad. It's not in the same league as the last, Superman/Shazam return of black atom but it's still enjoyable. Although, i really didn't like Supermans voice this time around for some reason. I just wish all these movies were done with the same anime influence as Black atom and Batman Gotham KNight. Or better yet, a full length Cgi movie would be class.

Eeh! It's more than a few rungs above Superman/Shazam.

20 more minutes couldn't have hurt. I disagree about the two kryptonians, the movie got better after their introduction. The earlier issues didn't transition well (by this I mean it was less seamless before their introduction). After Superman gets back from installing Kandor the movie was more seamless imo.

I do agree that Solaris was badly introduced, some artistic liberties should have been taken, perhaps giving him a bit of back story. It had a great ending though.

Yeah, its def better than Superman/Shazam.

Indeed it was. Besides just being shorter, Superman/Shazam's storyline isn't nearly as good. BA is better as an anti-hero, not nearly as convincing as a bad guy.

Lol, 'Black Atom' 😆

Solaris just came out of nowhere. They should have build him up.

I just meant that the Kryptonians themselves were an absolutely pointless addition to the plot, and really didn't add anything to the film. The entire Kryptonians scene could (and should) have been replaced with some backstory on Solaris (or possibly even the Superman Squad) and it would have lended a whole lot more to the film as a whole. Imo.

pretty good.

yeah, something as significant as Superman discovering new Kryptonians seems like it would demand more focus than a stupid Superman Serum. I mean, This is where the movie lost me. The fact that Superman can simply whip up a miracle drink that can allow anyone to be a god for a day is just stupid and breaks all of the rules. This movie had Three different plots crammed into one movie and none of them were able to link together with each other.

Personally, i would have been content if they would have just stuck to the story line of Lex forcing superman to fly to close to the sun which in return ends up killing him. What i would have changed would have been the dumbass sun eater and that stupid red star. Those characters were super lame. Superman should have ended up sacrificing himself in order to save the sun and that one dude clones him, the end. We have a happy and dark ending. Seems like they were introducing characters just to sell toys at this point and not for story.

Agreed. Now don't get me wrong, the various characters that were randomly introduced during the film are quite interesting in their own right (or at least they were in the comic series), but HOW they were introduced/handled in the film was just... Gratuitous (for lack of a better word.)

I watched this a while back... Have to say I really liked it in parts. Yes they were cramming a lot in, but I honestly feel like it was one of the best examples of getting the "spirit" of Superman in to an animated movie, and was a better representation of him than say, Apocalypse was.

A fine addition to the DC Animated stable imo.

^ Absolutely 👆

Saw it. Liked it.

Meh. I liked the animation, but it was too short. I would recommend the book and skip the animation.

This was was pretty lame. Several scenes/sub-plots seemed thrown in there as an afterthought to fill in time.
