Even with the anime he's still no match for the guy that blows forests away and sinks islands. Toyotomi didn't really evaporate the sea, the water came back after he beat Motochika. He was very impressive in my book, but he doesn't really have the durability to trade blows with him. Well his durability is up and down now due to the final fight with Date.
