Iran Threatens to Boycott London Olympics Over 'Zion' Logo

LONDON -- When the logo for the London 2012 Olympics was unveiled four years ago, critics slammed the sign as a crime against design, with some saying the graffiti-style scrawl resembled a swastika and others arguing it looked like Lisa Simpson engaging in a sex act.

Now the Iranian government has belatedly joined the critical conversation, claiming that the jagged 2012 motif actually spells out the word "Zion." Authorities in Tehran this week handed a formal complaint to the International Olympic Committee, warning that Iranian athletes might stay away from the games unless the logo is changed.

Iranian athletes have a long history of boycotting events.

A potential gold medalist in karate (or whichever is an olympic event) refused to fight an Israeli athlete and took a loss in one of the ealier rounds one time

Iran can barely hold their own country together. Who knows if it's going to be there 2012. Hopefully the United Democratic Republic of Persia will participate in its stead.

Well its not as if any Iranians are going to win anything is it. And most of their women can´t participate or risk getting stoned to death if any flesh is shown.

As for the olympic logo, there´s been a lot of things on the web about it being some sort of "new world order" sym,bol and all sorts, could be a case of "seeing sheep in the clouds" or really some hidden message.

I met this guy once who was a freemason, had all these weird titles for themselves and arrangements for their lodge get-togethers. I was a bit non-plussed about it all to tell the truth.

About this Zion thing, well I guess you can see 'Zion' there but it's all about interpretation for instance I can see 'Lion' or even 'Liar'

Boycotting is a bit too much, for instance you don't see the Russians boycotting Compare the Market for those suggestive Meerkat adverts. Or have they?
