He has different weapons at different times. An axe was once his source of power and could shoot energy beams, other times he just carries a regular gun and another time he carried a gun with Hydra blood laced bullets.

yea he did have the Twilight Sword at one point. he even had knowledge of where it was hidden in asgard.

i think ares being the god of war has some type of connection to all weapons

ares also has the gaunlet of ares which is a suit of armor that gives him hercules level strength. in fact he beat the shit out of hercules with it, proving he is alot more skilled than him in combat and that hercules only beats him because of the big strength difference

Ares with an Axe would win in my opinion.
